The Urban Development Boundary is set to expand by 379 acres near Homestead for industrial development after the Miami-Dade County Commission overrode a mayoral veto on Tuesday.

The commissioners voted 8-4 in favor of the UDB expansion for the South Dade Logistics & Technology District, which would have 5.9 million square feet of industrial space. That overcame the veto of Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava.

The development was proposed by Aligned Real Estate Holdings LLC, owned by Jose Hevia, and South Dade Industrial Partners LLC, an affiliate of Coral Rock Development Group. They have the farmland under contract from multiple parties. It’s located on the south side of Florida’s Turnpike and north of Southwest 268th Street, between Southwest 122nd Avenue and Southwest 107th Avenue. It would be just north of Homestead Air Reserve Base and west of Biscayne Bay.

The developers pledged to purchase and maintain 622 acres of environmentally endangered lands so the county can preserve them.

The mayor remains concerned about the environmental impacts of the project.
